Ascendant or Lagna in Horoscope according to Astrology

​The sign  rising  at the  Eastern  horizon is of great importance in Astrology. It's called the Ascendant or the Lagna in the Horoscope. The Ascendant is as per definition the sign that is placed in the first house of Birth chart. The Ascendant has to do with how we appear or the way we come across, thus our appearance and personality. It is what makes us each so personally different. This house rules our personal self and everything about us that draws a reaction from our surroundings or others. The personality and nature of the native is indicated from the first house or Lagna.

There are two ways that the Ascending sign has a great impact. Since the First house signifies the person's life in general, the body and the personality, the Ascendant has a significant influence on all these areas. Whatever the qualities of the sign are, those qualities will become very predominant. The other way that the Birth Chart is characterized by the Lagna, is by fixing up the way all the other signs are aligned with the 12 houses.  For instance, every Horoscope with Simha (Leo) lagna, will have Kanya (Virgo) at the Second House, Tula (Libra) at the third house, and so on.  Hence, the Lagna suggests 12 zodiac-house combinations at once.  Each sign will colour the house it is in, just like the Lagna colours the life.  Their lesser significance doesn't prevent them from contributing to the overall trends in the Kundli with a Lagna, although admitted, the 11 houses are not as significant as the first.
