When taken in hand, it is smooth, heavy,transparent and fulfilled with natural luster.

If a yellow sapphire is rubbed at a place where a poisonous insect might have bitten then the poison gets off.
If there is no difference in its brightness on keeping it in raw milk, then the Yellow Sapphire might be original.

3,5,7,9 or 12 Ratti Yello Sapphire should be worn in the index finger of the right hand. It should be embedded in a gold ring. Dip the ring in a copper vessel with Gangajal, Raw Milk and Yellow flowers. Chant the Jupiter seed mantra 19000 times before wearing.
This stone should be worn in the Thursday Hora or in Gurupushya Yog or in Punarvasu, Vishakha or Poorva-Bhadrapad nakshatra.

The substitute Topaz or Sunaila

It is considered as the substitute of Yellow Sapphire. Topaz is sometimes worn instead of Yellow Sapphire due to it being valuable. The best Topaz (or Sunaila) is of light yellow color (yellowish like a mustard). Many a times it is yellower than Yellow Sapphire and is beneficial partially in comparison to Yellow Sapphire.
