Astrology is an ancient knowledge. Indian Astrology Scholars have accepted it in reference of freedom (Mukti) “Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye”. All the four Vedas have reference of Astrology. The meaning of Astrology or Jyotisha is Light: It takes us from darkness towards light, from Asatya (the False) towards Satya (the Truth), from Agyan (Unawareness) to Gyan (Knowledgeable Awareness).
Which means Astrology is the combined study of Sun and other planets with reference to time telling Shastras. The life of human being is very mysterious. Each and every one is eager to know it. We as humans, have a tendency to feel insecure and everyone is afraid of this unknown future. Astrology reveals the happening of ‘time wheel’ or the ‘kala chakra’. No incident in the universe takes place without any reason. As it is already said “Na sata vidyate bhavaha, na bhavaha vidyate sataha” – this means that each and every happening has a cause. The whole shrishty (Universe) works on this basis of cause and effect.
Jyotish or Astrology reveals the cause of birth of human on the Earth. His present birth is not a new one, but if is a link of a chain of birth being taken by the soul. Present birth of human is based on the Karmas which are performed in the previous life decide the ‘Fala’ or Result in the present life. Jyotisha (Astrology) is the history of Sanchita (Accumulated), Prarabdha (Destiny) and Kriyamana (Future Karma) in sequence.
The karmas performed from previous lives till now are known as ‘sanchita’. The part of karma which is being utilized is known as ‘prarabdha’ and the karma which will be performed in future is the ‘kriyamana’.
According to Acharya Varaha Mihira- The great revolutionary in Indian Astrology, human body is the reflection of the universe.
“ यत पिण्डे तत ब्रह्मांडे ”- Yat Pinde tat Brahmande.
Human Body is the integrated part of the “Kal Purusha”.
According to Vedic Astrology, Sun is assumed to be the spirit of the Kalpurusha. Moon is the mind, the mental condition of human is depicted through the position of moon during the birth of the Native. Mars or Mangal denotes Satva, the Mercury or Buddha denotes speech, Jupiter or Guru is for Knowledge, Shukra is recognized for Karma or Work and Shani or Saturn denotes Sorrow.
Acharya Varaha Mihiria has shown relations between the body part of the ‘Kalpurusha’ and humans in Astrology. Through astrology the ‘Shubh’ that is the Good and the ‘Ashubh’ that is the Bad Falas or Fruits can be depicted on the basis of the positions of grahas and nakshatras in the twelve houses of Janmangchakra (Horoscope). According to Astrology, the Rashis (Zodiacs) which are effected with ‘Papa Grahas’ or the envy planets during the time of birth, they effect those parts of the body which they depict. Similarly the bhavas which are affected with ‘Papa Grahas’. They don’t give good results. Similarly if Bhava (Houses of Birth Chart) and Bhavesha (The lord of the respective houses of the Horoscope) are adorned with shubha grahas or good planets they give good results. In the congruent way Jyotish Shastra or Astrology can tell about all the incidents of life. We can know all about happiness and sorrows which come in our life.
According to the Vedic Shastras in Indian Astrology- ‘Lagna’ is our body. If lagna and Chandra (Moon) both are affected with ‘Papagraha’ or envy Planet- this shows that the previous life was indulged in paap (bad) karma. Surya (Sun), Mangal (Mars), Rahu and Shani (Saturn) are pap grahas that give ashubh or bad falas (results). In astrology, opposing the Pap Grahas or Bad Planets are the shubh grahas (good planet) - Chandra (Moon), Buddh (Mercury), Guru (Jupiter) and Shukra (Venus) which give auspicious results and effects.
We experience happiness and sorrow according to our poorva karamas. A native can get to know the future through Astrology.
If we think over in Astrology, seriously on the mystery of grahas or planets, we find that all the happenings of life are well organized and based on the effects of grahas and thus planets have important role in our life.
Jyotish or Indian Vedic Astrology tells the way to make the life better by knowing the good and bad incidents of future and acting accordingly.
For Graha Shanty (Giving peace to the planets envy in one’s Horoscope) , uses of Mantra, Tantra, Yantra, Mani Aushadhi ‘anushtanas’ are performed and success in the form of good results is obtained.
In Vishnu Dharmatta Purana, For Vedic Astrology it is said ‘Gochare wa Vilagne wa ye Graharishta Suchaka Pujayettam pujitah Syu Shubh proda’. And thus, Vedic Jyotisha or Astrology is a shastra to understand the complications of future and get rid of them from further life.
